So I looked for a random pick up party last night for Hodge's monk. I learned a valuable lesson; Don't.
I'm one of the few people, it seems, who doesn't mind Qufim parties. For the most part, Qufim parties don't suck. At least, mine don't. But this morning was just aweful. 1.5 to 2hrs with this one party and I didn't gain a single level. I did die, of course. This is unacceptable for a 19 to be in a party that long and not level. Especially when you're on worms. The party set up was thus:
WAR/NIN
RNG/WAR
RNG/NIN
RDM/BLM
MNK/WAR (me)
WHM/(Yes.. nothing goes here. A 33 WHM with no sub. lolRMT)
This should have been an awesome party, WHM aside, for worms. NOPE. I died because I voked off the dying WAR and never received a single cure, nor another voke. I learned my lesson very quickly. I ignored my provoke macro for the rest of the night. But then the lolWAR had to go and piss me off. The WAR, nonsynched, was level 23. Subbing NIN and using a GAxe. WTF? If you're going to go /nin, then bring two fucking axes so the sub is put to some sort of use. Not that it would have mattered since we were synched at 19. Still... ANYWAY. She pipes up and says 'this isn't gonna work. I can't tank without shadows.'
I died a lil inside.
I replied with 'Really? Cause I did.' (For reference, I was referring to Myranda, since Hodge ate sand quite a bit)
In retrospect, I could have chosen my words better. It probably sounded sarcastic and rude, but there was no ill intention. Not yet, anyway. She replied with something like 'How fabulous for you. I know that I can't do it' or blah blah, whine is me. The sarcasm took me by surprise. I was not expecting it. I did a quick /sea and didn't see any other tanks seeking, so I shut myself up. I may be blunt, but I'm also greedy. One tends to cancel the other.
Anyway.
The PT leader asked us to resynch, so I suggested we synch to 22 so that the WAR can use her shadows. I fail because I can never remember that Utsesmi is 12, not 11. I fess up to it. It's just something I do. Her response?
'If you knew anything about WAR, you'd know that you don't get shadows until 24.' (lol I like how knowing WAR = knowing /Sub abilities).
I didn't care, at this point, if I pissed her off and she took her toys and went home.
'Excuse me for subbing something worth while,' I replied.
'Last time I checked, /nin is the best sub.' I died some more. I like how best sub = most popular sub.
'No it's not. /mnk is best for tanking at this level. I've subed /mnk, /nin, /thf, /sam, and even /drg. /thf is best for DDing after 30. /mnk is best for tanking in lower levels. /nin is good for tanking post-jungles, and only good for parsing at 50+. /Sam is the best for flexiblitiy.' (seriously, you only ask a NIN or WAR/NIN to tank in the jungles if you hate them and want to laugh while they waste their gil).
I can't remember what her response was, but her butt-hurt went away and we remained civil. She wasn't convinced, I could tell. who would believe a Rank2 taru? Speaking of ranks, she was Rank 9. I cannot fathom how a Rank 9 doesn't know that a war can tank without /nin at those levels. Maybe she just only had one high-level job, and rushed missions, or something. I dunno.
Anyway. The war goes AFK to feed her baby or something, and I decided I had enough and logged onto Myra. I went to Xarc and leveled Kolui some, and tried that book-thing. Pretty snazy. Free XP and gil. You can only do it one Vana-day, though. So I don't see a whole lot of use for it, unless you're out soloing. Kinda like a campaign mission, in that reguards.
I had a problem with another party out in Valk. It was a good, solid party, but there was obviously some 'omg greed' over chests. That and a shadowless NIN trying to tank. I appreciate the effort, but a nin without shadows is a weeaboo THF. NIN is not a tank, by default. But she stopped when I asked, so no harm, no foul. ANYWAY. The treasure things... The temp items should obviously be discussed before everyone just randomly grabs them. Mages should get ethers, tanks should get potions, and DDers should get ATK up. You'd think, anyway. Of course, it's situational. If you're fighting AoE heavy mobs, then the DD's should get the healing items so the healer can focus on the tank.
Anyway. Yeah.
I can't wait for Tuesday's static to start.
